Good evening all,

I'm new here with a bit of a long 1st post (sorry) I'm not too sure if this is the best part of the forum to post this. I'm a student at the University of Brighton working on my Environmental Biology dissertation. It is based around pond use by urban and rual Common frogs. The study involves rearing tadpoles from spawn in the lab to analyse growth and development. I'm having a bit of trouble sourcing ponds however. Is there anyone in the Hastings (or nearby areas) area that owns a pond or knows of anyone in the area that owns a pond that is used by Common frogs for spawning. I would be ever so grateful if anyone could help out. The more ponds the better. The tadpoles will be returned to their native ponds.

Many thanks

Jos

Have got in contact with your local amphibian and reptile group? They may be able to help you -  http://www.arguk.org/

Failing that, I would have a look on google earth and ordanace survey maps to locate the ponds in your area of interest, then try and contact the owners (knock on some doors).

Or find out the name of the local newspaper and submit a begging letter for help.

Probably worth putting the post in the Projects and Grants forum and the Common Frog forum too Jos.

Sorry I can't help more directly, Hastings isn't my area and trying to find common frogs around here these days is harder than finding adders.
